Peru to Ecuador-a journey in volunteerism

A six week adventure in living, traveling, and giving back to communities on the South American continent. From assisting with efforts to preserve marine mammals on Lima's coast to diving with hammerhead sharks in the Galpagos, I will be posting my experiences so that students may take an interest in humanitarian and conservation issues.

About Me

Lynn
Sitka, Alaska, United States
Hola! My name is Lynn and I work as a tutor for the Sitka Native Education Program, and I am also the aquarium manager at the Sitka Sound Science Center’s Molly O. Ahlgren Aquarium, where I collect sea creatures, write grants, develop the volunteer program, and organize beach cleanups. My hobbies include SCUBA and free diving, sailing, swimming, organic gardening, photography, and walking my dog. I moved from California to Alaska in 1992 to earn a degree in marine biology, and since then I have traveled to Central America, Canada, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. I live in Sitka on my 30’ sailing vessel Kalei. In December I will be embarking on a month-long journey to Peru and Ecuador to work for ORCAS Peru, a marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation center, Jatun Sacha, a research station in the Ecuadoran Amazon, and Hacienda Tranquila, a family farm on San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos. Of course, I will be visiting a Peruvian Paso horse farm, local markets and natural sites, and I will be diving in the Galapagos. I will be uploading photos I take on the Lima coast, from touring the Andes, and while diving the Galapagos Islands so stay tuned!
